Ronnie Peer has been involved with music since the age of two and a half. His mother, Esther Peer, tells the story of his very first performance...
"When Ronnie was a baby, his crib was next to my vanity. I would play the radio each morning while I prepared for work. One morning I noticed him standing up pounding (drumming) on the bars of his crib, with his chubby little hands. I began to take notice that he actually was keeping time with the music. He was in the groove tight!
There he was in all his glory, wearing diapers, a little white baby t-shirt, a baby bottle half filled with milk and
Mr.Teddy Bear laying at his feet. He was right on the beat, and he stayed there. That's My Boy".
Born and raised in San Diego, California, Ronnie was in several Jr. high school bands, first as a guitar player, then as lead singer. As a natural born drummer you could always find him with drumsticks in hand, pounding on the edge of the bed. With no rebound, this turned out to be excellent wrist exercise. It also helped develop his skills as a drummer and as a music LISTENER.
Ronnie never considered himself a serious musician. Yes he loved music, could feel it and understand it but he realized being a musician was a sure “all access pass” to poverty, except for a few.
Making a career in the radio business was risky enough, but at least you got lots of free t-shirts, concert tickets and all the albums you could eat, if you were on the radi
After graduating from college with a degree in telecommunications, he entered the radio business. That's where the slogan liner “Over 25 Years in The Music Biz” comes from. Real Life Experience...not just a slogan liner!
Ronnie became an award winning music director and has over 25 gold and platinum RIAA certified albums to his name including, Guns and Roses, The Beasty Boys, Dokken, Poison, Cinderella, Robert Cray, Richard Marx, Ozzy Osbourne
Queensryche, Great White, Billy Idol, Bon Jovi, Europe, George Harrison and Tesla are just a few.
He ‘s been music director for CBS-Rock radio, based out of San Francisco, programmed 93 Rock in Sacramento, while the station was rock dominant in that market.
Ronnie also worked for the legendary KGB-FM in San Diego known in the industry as one of the top five rock radio stations in the country. It was during his four years at KGB that Ronnie developed "Metal Shop"...A program that left it's mark in developing groups from AC/DC to Ronnie James Dio, Motor Head, Dokken, Motley Crue . Many of today's Premier Heavy Metal bands got their first major market radio esposure on "Metal Shop".
Ronnie was also prominent in pioneering and defining the “Smooth Jazz” format, at FM 98.1 - KIFM, in San Diego, the Wave in Detroit, Mi. KQPT, The Point, in Sacramento, Ca. Wnnd, the Wind in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was one of the three people who brainstormed the slogan liner "Smooth Jazz". Not bad for a Head Banger!
When "the radio business” became uncreative and no longer appealing:
Ronnie decided exit the radio biz after 25 years to do what? To start writing original music, Turbo-Tonk and Hillbilly love songs that make the girls swoon and the cowboy's cry!
Because his radio career was spent in the rock format, then the “Smooth Jazz” format , Ronnie never paid too much attention to "country music".
Most of his original compositions sound like modern country /Americana, or new country rock. Ronnie says " Don't ask me why I ended up with my love for this music and lifestyle.
Wet think Ronnie caught it from Buck Owens in Bakersfield during the years he was music director at ,KKXX-FM,
Buck's , Rock and Roll Radio station in Bakersfield, California!
"We think he picked up more country influence working in Bakersfield
than he realizes!=
If you have any questions regarding the music, or the radio business, feel free to give me a call. It would be my pleasure to arrange a time for you and Ronnie to speak, maybe share ideas.
With “Over 25 years in the music biz”
he certainly knows a thing or two, or at least has a reason to have a strong opinion!
Thank you for visiting!
